I've been waiting to write this blog post for a while now! Last Tuesday we finally landed at the farm in Normandie and it was everything I wanted to be. We were welcomed by the lovely Lily and her family and spent the week looking after the animals and helping with odd jobs, but mostly just being spoiled with home cooked meals and lot's of free time because of the weather! There is nothing quite like fresh eggs on a morning and then chicken for dinner. (If you know what I mean...) We found out about the farm through a program called WWOOF, which stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. I payed about $12.00 for a French wwoofer membership and that allows you to explore the whole website which includes locations over the whole of said country. Considering we payed nothing to stay on the farm and were fed and housed in turn for work when needed, it's really an amazing opportunity that you'd be silly to pass up. Membership lasts for a year also, so considering how long you may be wanting to travel for, you could be visiting and exploring all corners of a country and literally not pay a thing, as long as you are willing to get a bit dirty at times! I am so pleased that the farm was such a great experience, as the previous week had been really tough on me. I was homesick (not knowing when you're coming home is hard..) and also had anxiety about being on the road and not knowing where we were going to end up on a night, so the farm was sounding very welcoming. I settled immensely and really started to enjoy my time away, and it also helped me to realise that being away from home for more than a month was a bit too much (this time around anyway) and that shortening the trip to my original idea of three weeks was probably the best idea for me (and my crippling anxiety) Back to the farm- we had our own seperate house to Lily and her family's, and all to ourselves for most of the week which was a welcome surprise! We  were woke up most mornings by the roosters, which sometimes started singing at midnight, so you can imagine how that fared... I swear they were screaming 'let me out already you lazy arse!' The only unfortunate thing about our trip was the weather, which was not so great, but we hope to come back in the summer and help out more, and also make use of their pool! Missing my dog at home is a big thing for me, so knowing that they had dogs of their own was a comfort, and I can now say that I officially miss their dogs! Izzyboo and Asami, two tiny pomeranians have now stole my heart, I may never fully recover. Lastly, I just want to say a big thank you Lily and Co for welcoming me and Nick and taking care of us, Lucy, I will get onto making your skirt as soon as possible! And Chad, have a great time at the farm and exploring the rest of Europe, if we ever come to Alaska we know who to call! and Izzyboo and Asami, I'm coming back for you.
