Rotterdam really surprised me. When we'd booked to stay I had regretted it afterwards, seeing reviews that it was all industrial and a bit 'hard' really put me off, but I know now to not judge a book by it's cover, because Rotterdam (especially in the sunshine we were lucky enough to have) is actually a pretty lovely place to stop off. A day was enough to explore the city, The central station is amazing and probably the cleanest train station you may ever visit, the Markthal was also incredible, with an oval ceiling painted with a beautiful fruit mural that really does take your breath away. We stopped off for churros inside and the lovely waitress behind the counter recognised our accents and gave us them for free on account we stop and chat with her! So thank you Gabriella, and I hope you meet Scotty T from Geordie Shore one day. Despite us thinking Rotterdam was only big buildings, there was beautiful parks to visit also, near the Natural History museum is the museum park, and a short walk away is the Euromast, with Het park a great place to view it from. We found a tree swing there and that really made my day (it's the little things isn't it?) If anyone is taking a trip soon to the Netherlands, I would seriously recomend a day trip to Rotterdam, preferably when it's sunny because I think that really helped make it beautiful, and if it had been a rainy day it may have been a different story... After WW2 Rotterdam was completely changed, so it's important to remember the history that still lies there, and that what we visited was a second Rotterdam, and not the original, which we imagine would have been a lot more like Amsterdam. Overall, Rotterdam was the city of big, big buildings, big bridges, big tree swings, big everything! A beautiful example of what a modern city should be.
This could be Rotterdam
