Although we are back home now (and have actually been on a another trip since..) I want to make sure I write everything down about thelast week of our road trip. During the time after Paris, I was really not well. I'd been suffering from some weird bug which I still don't understand how I caught, it really took it out of me and I lost my appetite for a good few days. I wasn't really fully over it until our last couple of days, which was completely shit, yes. Nevertheless, I soldiered on, and so did Nick, as he drove us all the way from Paris straight to Luxembourg that day, which was a very long and tedious drive, but we were glad to arrive in a little town called Wiltz, which was so quaint. The lady we stayed with had a beautiful home overlooking the rest of the town, and we had the whole of the third floor to ourselves, which was really nice to not feel like we were in the way, which can happen sometimes with Airbnb. We explored the nearby area briefly the next day, but decided to get on the road, which turned out to be our favourite ride of the trip. We came through about three different types of weather, sunshine, rain and then even a snowstorm! It was an amazing weave through Luxembourg, Belgium and Luxembourg again, and then possibly Belgium again...I can't actually remember beacuse it was so close to the the border, which was good fun. Finally we landed in Roetgen, Germany outside of the Nationalpark Eifel. It was a welcome change from the big city and we enjoyed having our own apartment in the basement of Gabriels house, there was even a sauna! (but it wasn't in working order... next time) Although our stay was short, I would absolutely love to go back, from the time that I've spent in Germany, both on this trip and in the past, I've found the people to be extremely kind, which is so welcoming when you're in a new, strange place every night.
After Germany, we headed back to Amsterdam to spend Valentines weekend there which was lovely once again! I much prefer cities such as Amsterdam which are much smaller and easier to get around, the rail system is incredibly clean and easy to navigate on, so staying outside of the city is not complicated at all if that is easier for you, whether you're driving or simply just want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city itself. After spending our last day in Volendam, just half an hour from Amsterdam itself, we enjoyed seafood and sunshine by the sea, which really couldn't have been anymore perfect. On the ferry back I booked a steak dinner to treat Nick for being the best boyfriend ever (Don't get too full of yourself) and it's safe to say it was a pretty great way to end the journey, especially since we'd been living off super noodles for a lot of the time...
